Maryland cannabis business license application information.

Maryland has legalized the cultivation, sale, and use of medical marijuana. Although Maryland does not currently allow for recreational use of marijuana, there have been discussions about the possibility of legalizing recreational marijuana in the future. However, the voter’s approval of adult-use legalization (Question 4 on the 2022 ballot), the Maryland General Assembly passed House Bill 556 and Senate Bill 516, which develop a framework for Adult-Use Sales to begin on July 1, 2023. The legislation has been presented to the Governor, and as an emergency bill, will take immediate effect upon the Governor’s signature.

To operate a medical marijuana business in Maryland, interested parties must obtain a license from the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC), which is responsible for regulating and overseeing the cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, and sale of medical marijuana in the state.

There are several different types of licenses available, including cultivation, processing, dispensary, and testing licenses. Cultivation licenses allow businesses to grow and cultivate marijuana plants for medical use, while processing licenses allow businesses to manufacture and produce medical marijuana products such as edibles, concentrates, and tinctures. Dispensary licenses allow businesses to sell medical marijuana products directly to patients, while testing licenses allow businesses to test and analyze medical marijuana products for quality control purposes.

It is important to note that while Maryland has legalized medical marijuana, it is still illegal at the federal level. Therefore, businesses operating in the marijuana industry are subject to potential federal prosecution, although the likelihood of this has decreased in recent years.
